Here's a shot I took using a 24-70mm . There's even a small advantage with a longer focal length vs a shorter one; the Milky Way will appear slightly large in the frame relative to the foreground elements. I've never had to stitch Milky Way photos at 24mm, it's always been wide enough for me.

I will be scrutinizing how this lens performs from a astro state of mind—which is extremely taxing on optics. I will also be putting it up against the legacy Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8G for F mount, as well as the Sigma Art 14-24 f/2.8 which is available for Nikon F Mount, Canon EF mount, Sony E mount and L-Mount cameras, and is a worthy competitor.
